NFC East Wrap: Will Dez be dominant?
Dez Bryant caught 63 passes for 928 yards and nine touchdowns last season. Good numbers. Not great.
Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones thinks that Bryant can put up those great numbers. He thinks Bryant can be one of the top receivers in the league.
Jones was on KESN-FM this week, via the
Dallas Morning News, and talked about Bryant.
"The frustrating thing about Dez when we picked him and then when we came out and saw him is he’s better than we thought in terms of his skills," Jones said. "And so you sit there and you say, 'Boy, it seems if he could put it all together that he should be one of the dominant receivers and top two or three receivers in the NFL.'
"Not that he’s not, but he statistically hasn’t been that way up to this point. So when you’ve got a guy with that type of, and I’ll use this word carefully, freakish-type talent, then of course you think it seems like he could be, statistically as well as a player, one of the best in the business."
Thomas will be ready for campGiants' corner Terrell Thomas was held out of OTAS and minicamp over the past few weeks but he says he'll be ready for training camp on July 27.
"I'll be out there," Thomas said to the
Newark Star-Ledger. "No limitations."
Thomas is coming back after tearing his ACL. He missed all of 2011 but had five interceptions in 2010 and in 2009. He also started all 16 games in those seasons.
Griffin needs more repsRobert Griffin III has about a month off before training camp. Only, he really doesn't.
Griffin is becoming more familiar with the Redskins' playbook but offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan wants Griffin to keep getting more reps.
“You don’t have to be a genius to get it all,” offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said to the
Washington Post. “If you work at it — which he no doubt does — you’ll get it from a mental standpoint. But it’s not about just understanding it. It’s repping it, and you can’t get enough of those reps.”
Now that the Redskins' minicamp is over, Griffin will head home to Texas, where he will be expected to continue to workout, throw and study.
“I’ve just got to continue to focus on football. That’s what it’s all about,” said Griffin.
