Herdling returning to German club early
Union midfielder/forward Kai Herdling will return to Hoffenheim 1899 two weeks earlier than expected, the team announced on Tuesday.
Herdling had been on loan from the German team since April 16 and started in three of his four MLS matches, playing a total of 212 minutes.
“We would like to thank Kai for his contributions to our club over the last two months,” said Interim Team Manager John Hackworth said in a statement. “He was a consummate professional and it was a pleasure to have him as a member of our organization. We wish him the best of luck with his career in Germany.”
His loan was set to expire on June 30, but was waived early so he could rejoin Hoffenheim for preseason training this week. Herdling’s lone goal came in a friendly match against the Harrisburg City Islanders on June 14.
