Hillary talks to Laviolette about his draft expectations
Lisa Hillary talks to Peter Laviolette about his expectactions in the NHL draft. 6/20/2012
Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette had some free time to answer questions from fans at the team's official site prior to this weekend’s NHL draft. One question asked Laviolette what he was most surprised by this season. His answer surely conjured up some negative memories.
“I hope this doesn't come off sounding bad,” Laviolette began, “but honestly, the biggest surprise of the season was not beating the Rangers in a single game.
“I think of our team as a strong competitive team and I view the Rangers as the same. If someone would have asked before the year if it would surprise me if we didn't take one game from the Rangers I would have scoffed at them and told them they were crazy. So the fact that the season took place and we were unable win one game in the series...well...I'm surprised.”
The Rangers won all six games vs. the Flyers. Had the orange and black taken just two of those games in regulation, they would have finished ahead of the top-seeded Rangers in the Atlantic Division.
