NFL Notes: RGIII bummed by Olympic trials
In Eagles news, Desean Jackson spent his Friday mentoring youth football players at his camp in New Jersey
(see story). Also, former Eagle Donovan McNabb is eying a comeback
(see story).
Here's a look at some other stories around the NFL:
RGIII missing track? In a story detailing a day in the life of Robert Griffin III on
NFL.com (via
ProFootballTalk), the Redskins quarterback admitted it was hard for him to watch the Olympic trials. The former All-American hurdler at Baylor would have had a shot at qualifying for the Olympics if he wasn't dedicated to football.
"My dad was talking to me about it (Wednesday night) and he was saying that a lot of my peers, guys that I beat growing up, are running at the trials," Griffin said.
The piece also detailed RGIII shooting a Subway commercial and his high expectations for the 2012 season.
Davis in odd lawsuitRGIII had to deal with extortion from a former classmate at Baylor earlier in the off-season. Now, Redskins tight end Fred Davis is in the midst of an odd legal battle over alleged extortion as well, according to
SI.com.
A self-described "celebrity broker," Mikini R. Chaka claims Davis poured juice on her at a nightclub. Davis, in turn, claims Chaka is a pimp and is making up accusations to extort money.
Chaka has also said that Davis is using his status to keep her out of nightclubs where she arranges events. Both parties have chosen to represent themselves in court.
Football to Hollywood?According to
The Los Angeles Times (via
ProFootballTalk), Los Angeles is getting closer to landing an NFL team.
Roger Goodell sent out a memo to all 32 teams in the league detailing how relocation to LA would work, and the deadlines for the steps in the process.
The largest hurdle seems to be figuring out the stadium situation. If a team chooses to relocate to LA, they would need to have a detailed plan in place for how the transition into a new stadium (and the construction of the building) would work.
Teams rumored to be interested in relocation include the Rams, Chargers and Raiders.
