MIAMI – According to a baseball source, the Phillies are in serious talks with the Baltimore Orioles about a potential trade involving Jim Thome.
According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the deal to send Thome to the Orioles is complete.
The Orioles are in the market for a designated hitter and the Phillies are willing to deal Thome to a club where he could fill that role.
Thome, 41, has 609 career homers. He was the Phillies’ DH in nine straight interleague games earlier this month and hit .333 (12 for 36) with four homers, 14 RBIs and a 1.137 OPS. With interleague play complete, Thome has been relegated to a pinch-hitting role.
Thome was in the Phillies dugout for Saturday’s game in Miami.
