The Phillies rallied for 4-3 win over the San Francisco Giants in 12 innings Sunday afternoon.
Jimmy Rollins drove in the winning run with a base hit off Brad Penny with one out in the 12th. Carlos Ruiz had walked with one out and moved to third on a hit by Laynce Nix before scoring the winning run.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Phils.
The Phils went 2-4 against the Giants this season.
Starting pitching report
Joe Blanton gave up three runs over eight innings. He allowed a pair of solo home runs to Nate Schierholtz, one to lead off the game and the other to tie the game at 3-3 in the eighth.
Giants’ lefty Barry Zito allowed three runs over seven innings. He walked one and struck out seven. Zito allowed a pair of solo homers to John Mayberry Jr.
Antonio Bastardo struck out the side in the top of the ninth. Kyle Kendrick pitch 2 1/3 scoreless innings for the win.
Javier Lopez pitched a scoreless eighth for the Giants. Penny took the loss.
At the plate
Chase Utley tripled home the Phillies’ first run. Mayberry’s homers – his seventh and eighth – came in the fourth and seventh innings.
Schierholtz’ homers were his fourth and fifth. Pablo Sandoval also doubled home a run.
Outfielder Nix was activated from the disabled list and outfielder Jason Pridie was designated for assignment.
The Phillies open a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night. Randy Wolf (3-6, 5.60) and Roy Halladay are the starting pitchers.
