Salisbury's Instant Replay: Phillies 7, Brewers 6

BOX SCOREThe Phillies pulled off one of their most dramatic wins of the season
Monday night, rallying from three runs down in the bottom of the ninth
inning to beat Milwaukee, 7-6, at Citizens Bank
Park.
Ty Wigginton capped a four-run ninth with a
sacrifice fly to left, scoring pinch-runner Erik
Kratz.
All the runs came against Milwaukee closer
Francisco Rodriguez, who allowed three singles and three walks in the
inning. Ryan Howard drove in two runs in the inning with a single.
Carlos Ruiz drove in the tying run.
The Phils were 0
for 6 with runners in scoring position before Howard’s hit in the
ninth.
The Phillies had been 0-42 on the season when
trailing after eight innings.
Starting pitching
reportRoy Halladay was not sharp in
his second start since coming off the disabled list. He gave up eight
hits, including an RBI double and a three-run homer, and six runs in six
innings. He walked one and struck out three. Halladay gave up two
two-out singles, including one to the opposing pitcher, before allowing a
three-run homer in the fourth.
Former Phillie Randy
Wolf entered the game with the majors’ sixth-worst ERA (5.60) among
qualifying pitchers. The lefthander, however, got well against his
former team as he pitched six innings of two-run ball. Both runs came on
homers.
Bullpen
reportJoe Savery got the win in
relief. It was the first time in 18 appearances that he has appeared in a
Phillies’ win.
The Phillies had the bases loaded
with one out in the bottom of the seventh. They scored a run on a passed
ball, but that was it as Manny Parra struck out Howard with two men in
scoring position and John Axford struck out Ruiz to end the
inning.
Two innings later, Howard and Ruiz delivered
for the Phils against Rodriguez.
At the
plateChase Utley and Howard had
back-to-back homers in the first inning. Howard had three RBIs. Utley
reached base four times.
Aramis Ramirez (double) and
Corey Hart (single) drove in runs against Halladay in the first inning.
Carlos Gomez had a three-run homer off Halladay with two outs in the
fourth.
Health
checkShane Victorino left the game
in the top of the second inning with a right elbow contusion. Victorino
was hit on the elbow by a pitch in the first inning, although the umpire
ruled that he swung and missed. Victorino was replaced in the lineup by
Juan Pierre.
Placido Polanco sat out with a sore
back. He is day-to-day.
Up next
Zack Greinke (9-3, 3.57) and
Cliff Lee (1-6, 3.72) are the pitchers on Tuesday night. Both are former
American League Cy Young winners.
