London 2012: A men's skeet shooting record

LONDON -- So I just finished watching the U.S. women do their thing in gymnastics. The atmosphere in this newsroom reminded me of what it's like watching an Eagles, Flyers, Phillies or Sixers game back at CSN. Everyone was into the action. In fact, every time there's a swim final with an American it's been that way.

Everyone's feeling quite patriotic, and people who might otherwise be cheering against each other, as if the Eagles are taking on the Giants, are all rooting for the red, white and blue.

People keep asking me about whether it is true the turnout has been poor. I can only speak of the places I've been, and at the Royal Artillary Barracks (skeet shooting) and the ExCel Centre (judo) it looked like a full house to me.

Tuesday the crew and I went out to the men's skeet shooting final in which American Vincent Hancock won the gold with an Olympic record by hitting 148 of 150 targets.

It is another early day on tap manana. We're heading to North Greenwich Arena to catch up with someone who gets much more air under her than I do.

Trampolinist Savannah Vinsant and I will catch up to talk about her getting ready for her competition this weekend. No one from the U.S. has ever medaled in trampoline and it's a routine that typically lasts less than a minute. It should be really fun on the heels of the U.S. women taking team gold in gymnastics.

Until then, it's fish and chips. FYI, I had a hunkering for some American flavor so I reached deep down for my inner-fat kid and got a McDonald's chocolate shake. It's only a matter a time before I find one of the three Chipotles here in London. The closest one is only a few tube stops away!
