NFC East Notes: Witten has lacerated spleen
Cowboys tight end Jason Witten will likely miss the rest of the preseason.
According to
ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, citing a source, Wittin will miss the rest of the preseason with a spleen injury after a hit from Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain on Monday night.
Later on Wednesday, the Cowboys released more information about Witten. According to NFL.com's
Albert Breer, Witten has a lacerated spleen, which head coach Jason Garrett called a "very serious" injury.
Witten has to be "still and idle" for the next 8-10 days.
Redskins' Hightower close to returnAccording to
CSNWashington's Redskins Insider Tarik El-Bashir, running back Tim Hightower might begin taking reps as early as Friday.
Hightower is recovering from ACL surgery.
“You see his quickness has improved from three weeks ago,” head coach Mike Shanahan said. “Now, we have to put him in team situations and see how he reacts.”
Big bodies, little bedsThe Giants, like the Eagles, have their training camp on a college campus. Giants training camp is at the University of Albany.
The Giants have had a few players with back problems during this camp, and maybe it has something to do with those little beds in the dorm rooms.
“Everybody’s been complaining about their back because the beds in the dorms are fairly hard,” Linval Joseph said to Mike Garafolo of the
Newark Star-Ledger. “My back’s been hurting, too. Like I said, I think it’s just the bed.”
Martellus Bennett is a 6-foot-6, 270-pound tight end. He's not a fan of dorm room beds either.
“We’re big humans. Every bed is small,” Bennett said. “You can’t put a damn dinosaur in a twin-sized bed. … A normal-sized human jumps into a regular-sized bed and it fits perfectly. Large, big humans jump in a regular-sized bed, the bed’s too small.
